Tax Override Vote, Tuesday, May 20thOnce again, we have the exciting prospect of accepting a larger tax bite or accepting the consequences (predicted to be dire by some). Here's the non-enlightening text that will appear on the ballot, per the City's Election Commission: "Shall the City of Newton be allowed to assess an additional $12,000,000 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purpose of funding operating expenses for the Public Schools and the Municipal Government for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008?" Useful websitesThe City of Newton website provides a list of polling locations in PDF format. To find out in which Ward and Precinct you reside, you can call the Elections Commission at (617) 796-1350, or you can use the Election Commission's Voting, DPW and School District lookup service. Citizen's OrganizationsNot surprisingly (this is Newton, after all!), both a "pro" and a "con" group has been formed: [an error occurred while processing this directive]
