• Thursday, December 1, at 4:00 p.m.: Holiday Lighting Ceremony. Join Mayor Setti Warren to launch the holiday season with a spirited community sing-a-long of holiday favorites, with the award-winning Stacey Peasley Band. After the sing-a-long, Mayor Setti Warren will flip the switch that turns City Hall Grounds into a winter fairyland! Also featuring the Newton North High School Varsity Cheer team.
  Admission is free. Please bring a donation for the Newton Food Pantry. Special surprise guest and refreshments.
• Tuesday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m.: meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge
  Special holiday meeting; please contact byates@newtonma.gov for more information.
• Wednesday, December 7, at 6:45 p.m.: Meeting of the Temple Emanuel Networking Group.
  
  Temple Emanuel is at 385 Ward Street, Newton. The building is handicap accessible and there is on-street parking. Free and open to the public.
• Saturday, December 30:
  • Grand Opening: Newton Centre Ice-Skating Rink.
    Newton Center Green: Centre & Beacon Streets
    Skating Hotline: 617-796-1540
  • 1:30 p.m. -- 3:30 p.m.: Mayor's New Year's Open House at Newton City Hall. Free, but please bring a donation for our Newton Food Pantries. Entertainment, face painting, refreshments. This event is sponsored by Newton Community Pride.
